The US has a crack foreign policy team.

Or is that a foreign policy team on crack?

Check this out.
Despite the growing threat from Islamic extremists, President Pervez Musharraf said U.S. troops are not welcome to join the fight against al-Qaida on Pakistani soil.
Why is this interesting, you might ask? Well, I’ll tell you why.

Remember when Bhutto got assassinated? How there was speculation that they took her out because the US and Musharraf had just penned a deal to allow US troops in Pakistan and there was no reason for her to be elected since she would probably not agree to a similar thing?

Well, it looks like Musharraf had his fingers crossed behind his back. Not only did he get rid of a pesky political opponent, and maybe even with the help of the CIA, but now he’s reneging on the agreement. He got his cake AND he gets to eat it.

Oh boy. Let’s give a round of applause to the US foreign policy team. Way to go team!

Your title and lede in almost made me choke on my orange juice!

But I think you're absolutely right. Musharraf probably semi-threatened to stop all hunting on their territory unless bush allowed him to off his competition OR bushco simply set up an assassination opportunity on Bhutto in return for operational promises in the future, and were caught by surprise when Musharraf denied us any further "hot pursuit" permission.

And bushco cannot possibly criticize Musharraf for ridding himself of an opponent by extra-judicial murder, a speciality of bush, himself.
