SOTUA

Oh, of only I didn't have a day job. I'd go through the Chimpster's speech bit by bit because it was riddled with half truths and out-and-out lies. (Just like the rest of them have been.) I chose to watch it on PBS, only because they talk less. The other stations are always so pro-Bush that they're nearly impossible to watch. Unfortunately, when they do talk, you hear David Brooks, and we all know how unpleasant that can be.

Anyway, the speech was pretty dull. Had I played a drinking game and did a shot whenever he said the word "freedom," I would've landed myself in the ER. (Like, nearly 20 times he said it.) The speech was the typical, white vs. black, good vs. evil thing. What was clear by the end of it, however, is that there is no longer a two-party system in this country. It's one-party rule. And what is one-party rule? Why, it's practically a dictatorship. The dems fawned as much the republicans did. The standing up and sitting down. The only spark of life I saw was the mention of the Social Security debacle (did they have him mention it so that he'd seem charmingly self-effacing??)

[Annoyance note: Every time he mentions civil rights, they show an african american person. Every time he mentions abortion, they show a woman. It's such a friggin' cliche.]

I kept fantasizing about a real opposition party that stood up during his lies about the wiretapping thing (yeah, sure, "other" presidents have done what he's done.) and they should've stood up and walked the hell out of there. He also said that had the wiretapping been in place, 9/11 would not have happened. Well, to that I say HA! They had LEGALLY intercepted communications and nobody bothered to translate them until 9/12!! Idiot. (Meanwhile, the wiretapping program is being expanded.)

On top of that, Cindy Sheehan was arrested for wearing a t-shirt. One of these days, she's going to land in one of Halliburton's detention camps.

Overall, typically annoying and useless. An exercise in futility.
