The New WOT
posted by The Vidiot @ 11:54 AM Permalink Apparently Bushco has moved the goalposts again. Little did I know that when I labeled the State of the Union address the STFU address I would be so prescient. Apparently, the War on Terror is now the War On T-Shirts.The Capitol Police, as oxymoronic as that term will prove to be, arrested Cindy Sheehan and ejected a Congressman's wife for the hideous crime of (gasp!) wearing T-shirts that supported the troops.
Just moments after Cindy Sheehan was arrested for 'unlawful conduct' Fearless Leader uttered the words
"Every step toward freedom in the world makes our country safer -- so we will act boldly in freedom's cause. Far from being a hopeless dream, the advance of freedom is the great story of our time.
No one can deny the success of freedom, but some men rage and fight against it.
...
We love our freedom, and we will fight to keep it."
Let's recap shall we?
1) A chain link cage is a 'free speech area.'
2) Presenting a petition to the President and peacefully waiting on the sidewalk of the White House is grounds for arrest.
3) Wearing a t shirt is grounds for arrest.
BTW:
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
UPDATE:
And now even the Tops of the Cops admit it:
"We screwed up," a top Capitol Police official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. He said Sheehan didn't violate any rules or laws.
What really sticks in my craw is that a shirt with the number of Americans who have died in the war, (which had to be updated during the day), is somehow a protest!
Whether you agree with the war or not, the president, the senate and all of us should be reminded every day how many people are dying in our name ... except of course, those who can never forget.
