Water, water.
posted by The Vidiot @ 4:42 PM Permalink A few weeks back, the UN rejected water as a basic human right. Now, think about that for a moment; we can live without food for several months, but we can't live without water more than several days, and THAT'S pushing it. So how is something that is so necessary to our existence considered NOT a basic human right? And who was the biggest booster of this crazy decision? Canada (surely with the firm backing of the United States). The decision had more to do with economics than human dignity, 'natch. In this crazy economic system of ours, selling water to people who can't afford it trumps giving it to them to keep them from dying. Money for war, no money for water. The Environmental Protection Agency says utilities will need to invest more than $277 billion over the next two decades on repairs and improvements to drinking water systems. Water industry engineers put the figure drastically higher, at about $480 billion.Meanwhile, those of us with the means to buy bottle after plastic bottle of expensive water are being inundated with new MSM propaganda; don't drink so much water, drink soda instead! Processed water. Not only do you pay for the water, but you pay for the processing too, thereby increasing the corporation's profits.
I mean, wow.
There's a reason why water is called blue gold.
The struggle is no longer focused mainly on central Asian oil. It stretches from the Persian Gulf to Africa, Latin America, even the polar caps, and it is also a struggle for water and depleting supplies of vital minerals. Above all, global warming is increasing the scarcity of natural resources. The Great Game that is afoot today is more intractable and more dangerous than the last.
