NYC is STILL for the rich

This article says that the city will be cracking down on those evil recycling thieves
Last September, after officials realized they were losing more than $150,000 a year to scavengers who would drive around and grab recyclables left curbside, the City Council stiffened fines from $100 to $2,000.
The article makes it sound like it’s some sort of organized thing, people with cars and trucks are doing the lifting. The only people I ever see digging through the recyclables are poor and/or homeless. They take what little they find and get some cash for it. It’s urban recycling at its most efficient. I don’t deny that there may be some folks who are outright profit scavengers but for the most part, I can’t imagine that they make up the majority.

To me, it just seems like it’s another attempt by Bloomberg to ‘pretty up’ NYC, getting rid of the unsightly, making it all nicey nice for the developers and the rich folk.
