Back to the real world.

I know, I know. Everyone is still ecstatic with the Obama win. Honestly, everyone I know has been crying over it. But there's a whole big world out there with plenty of nasty things going on that requires somebody to get pissed.

For instance, did you know thousands of Indian farmers have committed suicide because the crops they planted with GM seeds didn't grow and bankrupted them? Thousands! Can you imagine? Monsanto told these folks that these seeds would grow without the need for expensive pesticides and guess what? They needed expensive Monsanto-produced pesticides. Not only that, instead of harvesting crops along with seeds for the next year's crops, they have to buy new seeds from Monsanto every year. These poor farmers, when they realize that they're screwed, with families to feed and debts to pay, well, they just kill themselves over it. Seen it on the news? Probably not.

In Iraq, did you know that cholera is rampant? Mostly due to the fact the US Government bombed the crap out of their water system (probably so they could pay their buddies at Bechtel to rebuild it.) And most of those dying? Little kids.

And here's a good one. Did you know that the Supreme Court may rule that big Pharma need not suffer the consequences of deadly or dangerous side effects from their medications IF the medicines were used in an FDA-approved way? And it covers them even if big Pharma hid those dangerous side effects from the FDA during the approval process?

Oh, and one more thing, even more troops are being assigned to domestic duty here in the US. Police state? Anybody? Anybody? (If you don't know what I'm talking about, read this earlier post.)

So while people are starting to fuss about Obama's choice of Chief of Staff, or who he might pick as Treasury Secretary, let's keep in mind that there's a whole, big, wide world out there. Part of what got us here in the first place was our "US-centric" view of the world.
