Things I'd like to understand
posted by The Vidiot @ 1:33 PM Permalink but can't seem to totally wrap my head around:- Why is "trickle down economics" not considered a "redistribution of wealth" in the upward direction?
- Why does anybody need to be worth billions of dollars? Wouldn't millions be enough?
- How is it, exactly, that corporations are considered "persons" under the law? Last I understood, persons die, eventually. Corporations do not.
- Why do people assume that money is the only enticement for progress?
- Why is it that most folks think that without government, violence would increase, thugs would dominate the weak and nothing would get done? Isn't that what we have now WITH a government?
- Why is the phrase "populist government" spoken with such derision? Doesn't that just mean that the government governs for the majority? Isn't that what a government is supposed to do?
- Shouldn't people with a lot of kids pay more taxes instead of less?
- Think about it: how random is the nation state? Who decided the border should be here instead of there? If you live one foot from the border, are you really all that different than someone who lives one foot on the other side of that border?
- And here's a koan for you: Is it 'free speech' if nobody can hear you above the din of the all-powerful media? Or, to put it as another koan: what is the sound of a lone man speaking?

Wow. Excellent comment, anonymous!
I often have wondered why, while speaking with others, it seemed that that they didn't hear me, then I realized with great shock and surprise that I was speaking parenthetically.
And you pretty much answer your own question below (or before or however that works).
