It would come as no surprise that Trent Lott would tell lies, right?
posted by Bill Arnett @ 3:21 PM PermalinkWhen Trent Lott resigned from the Senate before years-end '07, he denied that his retirement was prompted by a new rule going into effect January '08, that would have prohibited him from becoming a lobbyist for two years after leaving.
On Chris Matthews' Hardball he stated:
LOTT: Plus, John and I’d talk about the idea of getting together and forming a bipartisan firm, for years we kind of joked about it, and then it just seemed like it was time for us to see if we could do this. I think there’s going to be a big demand frankly, for someone who can talk to both sides of the aisle. There also continues to be a great demand in Washington for, "…someone who can talk out of both sides of his mouth."
Sound like a job custom made for the former Senator, eh?
