Pot, Kettle. Kettle, Pot.
posted by The Vidiot @ 6:39 PM Permalink Wow. I mean, WOW. Look at what Mrs. Bush said with regards to the cyclone in Myanmar. It's troubling that many of the Burmese people learned of this impending disaster only when foreign outlets -- such as Radio Free Asia and Voice of America -- sounded the alarm. Although they were aware of the threat, Burma's state-run media failed to issue a timely warning to citizens in the storm's path.I mean, the US government sure as hell didn't warn New Orleans that the flooding was happening until it was too late. The US government fails to meet its people basic needs.
The response to the cyclone is just the most recent example of the junta's failure to meet its people's basic needs. The regime has dismantled systems of agriculture, education and health care. This once wealthy nation now has the lowest per capita GDP in Southeast Asia.
It's like Katrina never happened for these people.
Jeebus.

What an idiot bush is - if he had served in S.E. Asia he would know that "cyclones" - actually a typhoon over there - the fool would have learned that it is exceedingly difficult for a typhoon to "sneak up" on a country. There's just no way you can miss the warning signs: high seas, trees pushed down parallel to the earth by high winds, 5-8 inches of rainfall an hour, and houses blowing off their foundations.
Could just be me, but I have survived TWO Category 5 typhoons, 2 or 3 Category 4 storms, and many, many lesser storms, so, I mean c'mon! How can you miss that?
They are rather hard to miss.
Not to mention the whole kicking them when they're down thing. It's the people who need the aid, not the junta. That may be naive of me to say, but that's the reality. You don't 'conditionally' offer aid.
Jeebus.
Unless you're heartless bastards like bush and cheney.
