"Nobody does it better, you are the best by far…

…nobody does it half as good as you, Baby you're the best." (from Carly Simon's opening song for James Bond's The Spy Who Loved Me.

I finally stopped laughing so hard at the newsreader on MSNBC that I was able to see the keyboard and login.

I was laughing so hard because she (I won't name her) breathlessly reported that, "Spies have managed to hack into the U.S. electrical power grid!" [emphasis added. Bill] I wonder what their first clue was, seein' as how the Pentagon was obliged to shut down its computers at least twice last year after Chinese experts hacked all the way through the mainframe and all the way to the supposedly "secure" computer of Robert Gates. I don't imagine that the electrical grid hack was half as hard as the Pentagon hack, so what's happened to all the world famous greatest whoop-de-do, gee whiz, golly Mickey, finest computer operators with many square miles of what are supposed to be the best supercomputers under the sky? They taking a nap?

Somebody better start putting together the pieces, and soon. The Chinese, besides the hacks last year, have been making a lot of noise about America going ever deeper in debt, and that it was about time the world recognized China as a world power.

China has been very busy building stealth submarines we cannot detect through current means:
"Submarines are the original stealth platform," [Captain Andy] Hale told The Associated Press, the only media allowed on board. "Submarine forces have always viewed the Pacific as a very important strategic area... It's certainly grown in importance in the last 10 years."

Just about every country with a coastline in Asia wants or has subs.

China, Japan, Australia, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Indonesia, Singapore, Bangladesh and South and North Korea either now have or are planning to acquire them.

Most don't pose much of a threat to the more advanced American fleet. But that is changing.
While Russia continues to be a factor, China now has the biggest submarine fleet in the region, with nearly 60. The United States has upped its presence in the Pacific, and now has more ships - and more subs - in this part of the world than in the Atlantic.

But they are still outnumbered.
Numbers of subs would seem irrelevant if the Chinese could simultaneously cut the power grid, shut down the Pentagon, and from waters just off our coast launch nuclear weapons. I can only assume our communications systems have been compromised as well, meaning the poor bastids in the line of fire from those nukes would get either no warning, scant warning, or even full warning, but would have only minutes before the first missiles exploded.

Our Pacific fleet, touted as the most powerful in the world would seem pretty useless if Chinese subs could disable their communications and slide right underneath them to attack us.

Couldn't happen? See this
American military chiefs have been left dumbstruck by an undetected Chinese submarine popping up at the heart of a recent Pacific exercise and close to the vast U.S.S. Kitty Hawk - a 1,000ft supercarrier with 4,500 personnel on board.

By the time it surfaced the 160ft Song Class diesel-electric attack submarine is understood to have sailed within viable range for launching torpedoes or missiles at the carrier.

According to senior Nato officials the incident caused consternation in the U.S. Navy.

The Americans had no idea China’s fast-growing submarine fleet had reached such a level of sophistication, or that it posed such a threat.

snip…..The lone Chinese vessel slipped past at least a dozen other American warships which were supposed to protect the carrier from hostile aircraft or submarines.

And the rest of the costly defensive screen, which usually includes at least two U.S. submarines, was also apparently unable to detect it.
Say it ain't so, Joe! How could America allow another nation, a communist nation with whom conflict may someday be unavoidable, achieve technological superiority?

'Cause for the last eight years the bush/cheney maladministration were too busy further enriching their already Midas-like, super rich corporate buddies in Big Oil, Wall Street, lobbyists, and doing their very best to lay waste to our government.

Which is why I will forevermore refer to the GOP, Republican Party, Compassionate Conservatives, or whatever permutation of their party may come next as TRAITORS to America too busy committing war crimes to take care of business here at home.

NOTE: I looking for some investment bankers to loan me the money to open schools to teach Chinese and to develop courses for regular schools to teach all the little chirrun' how to speak it. I mean, if our government either won't or is incapable of maintaining technological superiority and defend America, we might as well start speaking our prospective future language. Please send all donations to yourself, as you need the money far more than the government does.
