With ominous echoes of the current Swine Flu scare, Avian Flu was traced back to huge chicken factory farms in Thailand and other parts of Asia whose products were shipped across the world. Instead of a serious investigation into the sanitary conditions of those chicken factory farms, the Bush Administration and WHO blamed ‘free-roaming chickens’ on small family farms, a move that had devastating economic consequences to the farmers whose chickens were being raised in the most sanitary natural conditions. Tyson Foods of Arkansas and CG Group of Thailand reportedly smiled all the way to the bank.The more I watch the news, and the more I see them get all breathless over the swine flu, I have to wonder why. Why create such a scare? Not that many people have died. Not that many people are sick. What is all this fear doing? Who is it benefiting?

Mike Davis also wrote in the Guardian about how profit-driven business practises aid and abet the creation of virulent forms of swine flu and retard the fight against the threatened pandemic.
Recently I watched Frontline's recent programme - Poisoned Water - on factory farms and their effect on the environment.

Money, money, money, MONEY! MONEY! And Don Rumsfeld and all the other people with a vested interest in creating problems in order to make a profit from everyone who doesn't hold stock in the drug industry. It would be very interesting to see how many people in congress hold stock in Big Pharma and Big Oil, especially considering that all U.S. Senators are members of the millionaires club.
