Look at the Latest Rats Abandoning Ship
posted by Bill Arnett @ 10:52 AM PermalinkNow that they have aided and abetted in the ruination of America, have served as loyal bush henchmen, and played obstructionist in accordance with the orders of their true boss, Grover Norquist, who told all rethuglicans, "Nothing good comes out of this congress for the next two years," comes word of two more GOPers jumping the ship of state and abandoning their hero, Fearful [cheer]Leader, bush.
From Editor and Publisher comes this story regarding the latest two GOP defectors. It is, as always, an excellently written article and I encourage you to go to the link provided and read the whole thing. For my purposes here, however, I find the names of the latest deserting rats interesting:
Rep. John Doolittle, a conservative California congressman, today joined others in his party rapidly deserting the president on the Iraq war.[…]I can't tell you what these two "high quality GOP members," really stand for, since no one in the GOP ever makes an honest statement anymore. They excel exceptionally at lies, obfuscation, and filibustering.
A longtime supporter of the war, Doolittle called the situation in Iraq a "quagmire" on Thursday. "We've got to get off the front lines as soon as possible," Doolittle said at Rocklin City Hall, the Bee reported. "And in my mind that means something like the end of the year. We just can't continue to tolerate these kinds of losses.[…]
Earlier today,Sen. Pete Domenici (R-NM) also called for a change in course in U.S. military strategy in Iraq — without waiting for the September report on the "surge." He joined other Republican senators as Richard Lugar who have recently broken with the White House on this issue.
Domenici said he supports a bipartisan Senate bill which backs the recent report by the Iraq Study Group and would create conditions that could allow for a drawdown of U.S. combat forces in Iraq by next March.
But these two? Aren't Doolittle and wife currently under investigation for illegal pay-outs of campaign funds and his connection to corruption and crime? And taking bribes from defense contractors?
Didn't Domenich just get jammed up for his role in Attorney-Gate and facing the Senate ethics committee for unlawfully requesting that politically-based criminal charges be filed, true or not, right before the election in order to illegally influence voters in New mexico?
And we're supposed to care anything about two politicians who may have violated the law while acting in their official capacity as elected officials or lend credence to their self-serving utterances?
Both these guys are in trouble with their constituencies, yet we're supposed to cheer their change of heart? I call BS, as I believe these guys are just trying to clean up their reputations before election time in '08, and what better way to pretend to put the citizens of America first, when we all know that the GOP leadership does, has, and always will, put their party ahead of country.
And they want us to believe they have "seen the light" when it is much more likely that they finally "read the writing on the wall?" R-i-i-i-g-g-g-t-t.
