The ten most miserable states of America…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 2:24 PM Permalink

…and the political party that runs them.
1. West Virginia - Earl Ray Tomblin (D)
2. Kentucky - Steven L. Beshear (D)
3. Mississippi - Haley Reeves Barbour (R)
4. Arkansas - Michael Dale Beebe (D)
5. Alabama - Bob Riley (R)
6. Ohio - John Richard Kasich (R)
7. Delaware - Jack A. Markell (D)
8. Nevada - Brian Edward Sandoval (R)
9. Louisiana - Bobbie Jindahl (R)
10. Michigan - Richard D. "Rick" Snyder (R)
I compiled this list from two sources: one I no longer seem to be able to locate regarding the ten most hurtin' states in America and here, a list of state governors.

So six of the ten most miserable states are under Republican governors. HEY! That gives them a majority in misery.

Way to go teabagging-gop-ers.

But hey, look at how stirred up (I think the word is "incited") people are getting all over the place courtesy of the teabaggers…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 12:19 PM Permalink

…whom somehow have discovered the secret to releasing their oral death-grip on the particular teabag they happened to be sucking on and taking all that energy to continue wreakin', freakin', tweakin', and creatin' the mayhem and misery that is their stock in trade. They have become so expert at sucking that blowing hot air gives them both respite and the time for large groups of teabaggers to string together a grammatically correct sentence of more than four words, provided those four words have nothing to do with honesty, commonsense, nor morality.

Let's showcase a fine example of how mean-spirited, cruel, unpatriotic, stupid, shortsighted, and foul these bastards are:

1: The teabagging-rethug-gop-ers were just days ago crowing from the rooftops that the House had succeeded in repealing that awful, communistic, socialist, Satanist health law of the despotic, wanna-be-President/Dictator/Muslim sympathizer Hussein Obama and his surreptitious democratic health care co-conspirators. A teabagger-rethug-gop-er activist judge managed to declare the legislation unconstitutional and thus ensured that 33 Million more of their fellow Americans, the mortal enemies they wish to crush, see driven before them (into the Gulf of Mexico if it's still there), and to hear the lamentations of democratic women as they, their children, and families die horrible deaths choking on the oil the teabaggers-rethugs-gop-ers are all too happy to provide at any cost.

The reason for the overturning of the statute? The courts claim that the government cannot force people to PAY for that insurance!

2. Within two days these same teabagger-rethugs-gop-ers proposed legislation that would not only require EVERYBODY to have a gun, THE LAW STATES CITIZENS HAVE TO PAY FOR THE PRIVILEGE UNDER PENALTY OF LAW! PRECISELY the grounds that merited overturning health care reform. AND citizens would have to break their already-stretched budgets to buy very expensive guns!

Now, now. I don't want any teabaggers out there to drop into their characteristically insipid and rapidly disappearing intelligence mode (as if they ever possessed any intelligence in the first place) and start talking that wild-eyed crazy bat shit that the governments (federal and state) can't and don't make citizens pay for everything the government does, i.e., taxes for infrastructure, licenses for hunting, driving a car, licensing a car, boat, or motorcycle, getting a driver's license, sales taxes on virtually everything that is bought or sold, food, gas, electricity, water, ever higher tuitions to pursue a decent education. Hell one of their major sources of income are the fines, levies, and assessments ordered everyday by courts just like the courts where this teabagging piece of shit judge sit, and thousands of other like-minded jurists breathing our air in their sandcastles in the sky and trying to figure out how to tax oxygen.

Hello…hello…anyone home? bueller…buellar…bueller…oh hell, he's out with his girlfriend so we can levy even more fines, penalties, and he's having unprotected sex so his girl will become just another welfare queen driving her 1973 Buick down to pick up her Midas-like check and blow it on all the many, many drugs we have to bust her on now and in the future when she buys her state-ordered Cadillac at taxpayers expense. She'll be a permanent cog in the government money making schemes run by the courts that rule against her and her family.

What? Say it can't happen? Shit it was the God of the rethuglican party, Ronnie Raygun, that identified this existential threat to our republic. And everyone knows he was just kidding when, on national television, he admitted trading military-grade weaponry to TERRORISTS in order to get the Iranians to hold all the hostages so Ronnie would become a mythic, god-like…no…better than god-like statesman when immediately after Carter left office all the hostages were released on inauguration day after Ronnie was erected…uh, ELECTED, that's it! The erection came later when he was alone in the Oval Office…and he didn't need no Monica!

This is a neat little paradox or dichotomy or paradoxical dichotomy or whatever. Never could get the relationship of those words. It'll be fun watching those teabaggers talk out both sides of their mouth at the same time, dontchaknow.

Ciao, bella ámi.

I don't have any really good reasons for not writing lately…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 11:09 AM Permalink

…unless seeing a son and his affianced off to university (SFSU) where 120,000 applicants did what applicants do and applied for entry, 1,200 were admitted, getting them an apartment within short walking distance to the campus, obtaining a $100,000 personal liability renter's insurance policy for them (I guess Daly City on the SF peninsula must be extremely slippery for reasons I cannot ascertain as I haven't physically been there yet, probably has something to do with the Pacific on one side and on the other San Francisco Bay, where seventy-three men went sailing, I think the Sailor must have been one of them), getting a DSL installed, and doin' my very best to help load up their treasury counts for anything.

My son fixed our Macs so we can use the "iChat" feature to video conference with each other (that somehow sounds mildly obscene, like,"Boy! Did he video conference her! Did you see dat?") on important matters like keeping his Mom, my Warrior Woman, from cryin' her eyes out 'cause she hasn't seen him or talked to him in the last thirty minutes or so.

My hands remain problematic as well, most often the left hand especially, hurts like hell and seriously cramps my style (as if I had any). This cramping and pain prevented me from being of much help when it came to loading and unloading cars, and transporting the stuff myself to Daly City, a mere hoot 'n' holler from San Francisco, but enough of a hoot to make insurance and stuff a lot cheaper in San Mateo County vs San Francisco County. Fortunately my son and fiancé had help from a very good friend who happened to be a whiz at packing stuff into cars (I take great pride in being an excellent packer myself, but this girl, damn!).

A logical extension of all this personal stuff taking precedence was that for the last two or three weeks or more I haven't watched anything more than very brief snippets of MSM horse crap so I find myself at a disadvantage as to what is going on in the world, who's bad-mouthing whom, how many lies both old and new are being spread by breathless, panting, shiny red-lipped newsreaders (and that's just the men), and what current crises there are besides the Oilcano and whether or not in the land of the free and the home of the brave a mosque may be either built and opened or just opened in an existing structure, either of which would signal the end of civilization and the certain destruction of the planet Earth, itself.

I mean, hellfire and damnation, I can't think of a single thing that outweighs this crisis. Oh, sure, we've got lots of people dying from a lack of basic health insurance provided by the government, lots and lots of children going uneducated because so many teachers are being laid off and schools closed, thousands and thousands of homeless veterans and the highest suicide rates among veterans ever seen before, and the only other issue that even comes close is whether or not you can pack heat when going to church.

But, oh your god (he's not mine so he must belong to someone out there), a small, minuscule, tiny, microscopic number of citizens in New York (a hundred? two hundred? a thousand?) , Muslims, want to build a mosque in the same neighborhood as Ground Zero, surrounded by several million New York citizens with the right to bear arms and a police force with a proven proclivity for using their firearms (why they pump forty or fifty rounds into unarmed people!), and yet these New Yorkers are afraid and/or insulted that what, .0000000000000001%, of the population wish to pursue their religion in a location near to Ground Zero.

Hell, I can almost agree, and would agree, if they also closed down, locked the doors, and boarded up the windows of all the Catholic, Protestant, Methodist, Calvinist, and Latter Day Saints churches and all the churches and named religions not included here (I'm not on that tier in my head, so for a while there is much information missing from me), 'cause otherwise it's just plain old bigotry, racism, baseless prejudice, a denial of equal rights, and makes a mockery of our Constitution.

And don't go giving me that shit about it being muslims that attacked the WTC as it has been show, at least to my satisfaction, that all the attackers were foreign, mostly by far Saudi Arabians, and not muslims that could legitimately assert all the rights and privileges of citizens and lawful resident aliens. And the hijackers even gave us plenty of clues as what they were up to what with the fly but don't land training and all the intelligence and FBI warnings ignored by bush, cheney, condi rice, and the other clowns of the bush maladministration. bush's vacations and planning to engineer a war with Iraq took his attention away from real security threats.

Oh, well. I just wanted to let everyone know why I was gone for so long and that I'm back now.

Ciao, bella ami.

Let's give them something to think about…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 3:34 PM Permalink

…since no one seems to be much of a thinker these days (although I think I think and therefor I think I am). Fr'instance, take a look at this and examine it using the normal standards that words mean what the common man understands them to mean or as a dictionary defines them and, second, that within the context of legal documents the presumption is that the writer stated exactly what he or she intended.

Bearing this in mind, I would kindly refer the reader to two provisions of the United States Constitution that, at least to me, seem to comport with the idea of "citizen legislators" who would serve a brief term in the House or Senate then return to their home states to again become an inhabitant of that state, and thus eligible to, at a future date, again run for a Constitutional Office.

I know that much derision and scorn will likely be heaped upon me for having the audacity to point out these simple words and the logically simple result of those words.

From the official version of the Constitution as recognized by the Legislative Branch:
Section 2, Clause 2: No Person shall be a Representative who shall not have attained to the Age of twenty five Years, and been seven Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State in which he shall be chosen.

Section 3, Clause 3:No Person shall be a Senator who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty Years, and been nine Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State for which he shall be chosen.
Keeping in mind the standards that ordinary words denote their ordinary meaning and that the writer(s) of a legal document have stated exactly what they wish to state, It seems perfectly clear that upon election a Representative or Senator is no longer an inhabitant of the state from which he or she was chosen and therefore cannot run again for office from or for that state until such time as he or she has returned to their state as ordinary citizens and reestablished their status as an inhabitant of that state.

This comports with the expressed ideal of "citizen legislators" who serve their term and then must return to their state for whatever period of time that state has ruled sufficient to establish inhabitancy. This cessation of inhabitancy upon election would seem, perforce, to render unnecessary any need for "term limits" as the non-inhabitant officeholder would have to leave their elected position and reestablish their inhabitancy in a state to again be eligible to run for office, allowing for the constant refreshing of the Legislative bodies since only an inhabitant of a state may run for public office and that inhabitancy is removed, destroyed, eliminated, rendered null, and no longer exists after election.

This simple interpretation of the plain words used would also eliminate the domineering influence of Big Oil, Big Pharma, Big Corporations, and Big Anything or Anyone wealthy enough to buy a politician with their money, influence, lobbyists, power or any other inducement.

The republicans have long demanded "strict interpretation" judges that would decide issues within the four corners of that most precious and inspiring document ever written, to date, by mere men whom, though they be flawed and subject to the same influences, corruption, and corruptors, nonetheless wrote a document to eliminate Kings, those who would be King by the gathering of sycophants and the use of the wealth and influence of those who would corrupt government for their own end.

I say: LET'S DO IT and end forever the titular fiefdoms and corrupt bases of power that are inevitably constructed by men who have come to view it as their right to remain in the Legislative Branch for thirty or forty years and accumulate Midas-like wealth from their patronage to the wealthy desiring ever greater wealth and the benefits of that wealth that is, in turn, shared with the patron.

How is it that every single member of the Senate is a multi-millionaire when leaving office if not when entering it? (A superfluous and rhetorical question.)

Let's think for a change about what our Constitution actually says. I welcome challenges based upon the terms of the Constitution itself, not those based on illogic, or just stating I am wrong without some basis in fact bearing in mind what this document says. Calling my names, stating, "Our current system is the way it has always been done…", etc. will receive no recognition nor bear any weight as a valid argument.

Ciao, bella âmi.

Please Note: I modified the first paragraph to hopefully promote a better understanding of what I meant to say.

Why haven't we shot these people yet?

posted by The Vidiot @ 11:03 AM Permalink

Not just the asshats at BP, but the supposed "representatives" of we the people.
Backers of legislation to raise the economic-damage liability cap for oil companies to $10 billion plan to seek passage through the committee process after the legislation failed to win expedited approval yesterday.
Though, Dr. Vidiot just reminded me that OF COURSE they won't impose anything on BP. Their jobs aren't to represent us; they're jobs are to secure the safety of big business.

Update: So, I'm in the shower, and it occurs to me that putting up a post with the word 'shot' in it could get me a knock on the door by the FBI. So, just for the record (and for those asshats in the Federal Surveillance Bureaus), I am not nor will I ever be one of those people who goes around shooting big oil execs or elected officials. I am, though, one of the people who will be applauding the folks who do. OK?

It's a sad state of affairs when we get to this level of paranoia with our government.

When is someone going to ask congress and the senate…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 11:57 AM Permalink

…if, as I had to do recently with a bout of double pneumonia, has anybody asked them how, with no or little health insurance, how they would pay $17,000.00 A NIGHT for the health care given me through the VA as a 100% disabled Vietnam veteran.

$17,000.00, seventeen-thousand dollars for a single night in the county hospital. I literally know NO ONE, not a single friend of mine, other than Warrior Woman who has worked for Target for thirteen years, and even she would soon run up on limits at some point.

EVERYONE ELSE I know, except sick dick, gwb, and all the retired congressman and senators and those now debating health reform would literally be driven into bankruptcy by as small an event as a broken leg, or double pneumonia such as I had.

Unemployment running rampant, people so discouraged at not finding a job that they have given up their search, how much longer do they believe there will be before the food riots starts? Thieves are already mapping out former half-million dollar home neighborhoods, marking the ones still occupied right on the internet!

Fancy-Dandy closed housing is going downhill faster than Olympic champion bobsledders. Just how much more bickering and nauseating repetition of the same old talking points.

Every time Obama asked a republican in what areas they agreed, the republicans bought up nothing but cost, tax-raising, and not a single word about providing care people can afford or offer a single idea about improving care,

We the people, the bosses of these jerkoffs, should immediately cease any health care benefits for any and all to congress and the senate.

Get rid of the massive "defense" departments budget to a miniscule portion, we already have enough nukes no one dares nuke us. Mutually assured destruction is what has basically has protected us while we spend trillions in fruitless wars of benefit to no one; that alone would provide cradle-to-grave care free for every American.

This ridiculous bickering is destroying American and the American ideal and the end grows closer everyday these clowns continue posing for the cameras and harumpf, harumpf, harumph expound endlessly about a subject in which they have no stake whatever. They have theirs, screw the American public, the hell with their constituents, the old out of sight out of mind problem. They should all be forced to be bussed to the cancer wards and look at the children dying of cancer and let the republic stand before the microphones with which they are so enamored and tell everyone why those children should die from lack of care and do nothing but talk about theoretical costs.

It's just way to disgusting to listen to these a$$holes discuss money instead of caring for our citizens.

Damn each and everyone of them to hell. Bastards.

NOTE: I sent this posting to the White House website, although I had to modify it slightly for length. I hope they get the message, America is dying an ugly death thanks to traitors who openly pray and state that they will vote against every piece of legislation Obama supports, just to say NO, regardless of its merits and the fact that many of the measure were initially proposed by REPUBLICANS who are now nothing but traitors. Everyone talks of the upcoming midterm elections, crowing about the the lead republicans fancy they have, I say the American public is plenty smart enough to know which party refuses to do ANYTHING for purely partisan reasons-and it ain't the democrats. So while rethugs sit back, pants down, getting tea-bagged by their acolytes, they may find that they might as well turn around and spread cheeks for what the American public, wiser everyday, has in store for them. And it ain't gonna be pretty.

We the people…We the people…WE THE PEOPLE … run this country through a$$holes…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 9:23 AM Permalink

…we voted into office to act for the good of the country, care for all of us, establish a better union where all men are free and endowed by THEIR creator, not the most commonly mistaken quote of endowed by OUR creator, with certain unalienable rights, among those rights the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Ever since corporations were deemed 'people' the unalienable right of the REAL people have been further diminished each year until we find ourselves in our present situation: real people serving at the whim of and in servitude to nonexistent 'people' who command all power, own all the wealth, that are protected by legislation passed by people with their heads so far up the collective arses of these fictitious 'people', so indebted to their corporate masters that they have no choice to obey or be destroyed; their careers shattered, relegated to the unemployment lines, no longer employable in their former capacity for having committed the near fatal error of failing to kneel in subservience, failing to kiss the bejeweled hands of their corporate masters, and licking the dog crap off their shoes while telling those masters how much they LIKE the taste of crap, so you will always be available to lick their arses after they defecate, and tell them how honored you are to be so privileged and with what joy you will accept the smallest compensation for having had such an honor bestowed upon yourself.

Example:
On a household level, simple triage is relatively obvious and painless. Eating out is, well, out. The closure of 600 Starbucks, the closure of entire restaurant chains, the closure of various fast-food and restaurant outlets--these are already in the news every week.

Having your nails done weekly, after-school tutoring and classes for the kids, seasons tickets to sporting events--all are easy decisions: gone. Ditto overseas vacations, spa treatments, or vacations which require large amounts of gasoline or costly stays in resorts or hotels. Remodeling, new furniture, lavish back-to-school shopping, having the dog shampooed, music lessons, hiring house cleaners, car washes, texting, unlimited Netflix, the big office space--the list of easy triage items is nearly endless in the consumer-mad, service-economy U.S.

But that's the easy stuff. That's the financial equivialent of getting the lightly injured away from the scene. Once the household loses one income, or the sole income is slashed (bonus disappears, hours cut, benefits slashed, etc.) then the easy cuts won't be enough.

At the other end of the spectrum, the financially mortally wounded are also easy to spot and deal with. If a household's mortgage re-sets to $3,000/month and their income is $2,000/month, then they have to walk away from their house. Painful but obvious: the old "living large on borrowed money" spending $90K/year lifestyle has passed from this life. Mourn it and move on to a more positive and financially healthy way of life.

Unfortunately, at the Congressional level, this sort of obvious financial triage is political suicide. So we as a nation are wasting hundreds of billions trying to save the already-dead. This includes Lehman Brothers and hundreds of insolvent banks, and millions of under-water insolvent households.

It's political suicide because we voters continue to reward the biggest panderers with re-election. Denial is much more fun than reality, and if we elect panderers then they will gladly spend borrowed money to win our "please don't make me leave Fantasyland" vote.

Pundits such as Bill Gross are gamely suggesting the Federal deficit will have to run from a "mere" $500 billion a year up to $1 trillion. That's borrowed money, folks, which will require interest payments for the rest of our lives and our grandchildren's lives, too. How cavalierly Mr. Gross suggests funding a third of our Federal government's insanely wasteful expenditures by borrowing another trillion dollars from the Chinese and Gulf Oil exporters.
Or see this:
SEC Announces Enforcement Actions

During the week of August 3, the Securities and Exchange Commission announced the following enforcement actions.
On August 4, the SEC charged a large public bank holding company (“BHC”) for misleading investors about bonus payments that were being paid to investment bank executives at the time of that firm’s acquisition by the BHC. The BHC agreed to settle the SEC's charges and pay a penalty of $33 million. The settlement is subject to court approval.

The SEC alleges that in proxy materials soliciting the votes of shareholders on the proposed acquisition of the investment bank, the BHC stated that investment bank had agreed that it would not pay year-end performance bonuses or other discretionary compensation to its executives prior to the closing of the merger without the BHC’s consent. In fact, the BHC had already contractually authorized the investment bank to pay up to $5.8 billion in discretionary bonuses to its executives for 2008. According to the SEC's complaint, the disclosures in the proxy statement were rendered materially false and misleading by the existence of the prior undisclosed agreement allowing the investment bank to pay billions of dollars in bonuses for 2008.

On August 4, the SEC filed civil fraud and other charges against a large public corporation, alleging that it misled investors by reporting materially false and misleading results in its financial statements. The firm has agreed to pay a $50 million penalty to settle the SEC's charges.

The SEC alleges that the firm used improper accounting methods to increase its reported earnings or revenues and avoid reporting negative financial results. The accounting violations were identified in a risk-based investigation of the firm‘s accounting practices. They included:

• An improper application of theaccounting standards to its commercial paper funding program to avoid unfavorable disclosures and a pre-tax charge to earnings.
• A failure to correct a misapplication of financial accounting standards to certain interest-rate swaps.
• Reporting end-of-year sales that had not yet occurred in order to accelerate revenue.
• An improper change to accounting for sales of certain products that increased net earnings.
How 'bout this?:
Citigroup Inc., one of the biggest recipients of government bailout money, gave employees $5.33 billion in bonuses for 2008, New York's attorney general said Thursday in a report detailing the payouts by nine big banks.

The report from Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's office focused on 2008 bonuses paid to the initial nine banks that received loans under the government's Troubled Asset Relief Program last fall. Cuomo has joined other government officials in criticizing the banks for paying out big bonuses while accepting taxpayer money.

Comparisons to historical payouts weren't available, as the banks are not required to disclose the information publicly. They provided 2008 details to Cuomo's office under subpoena.

Cuomo's office found that the companies, which also included Bank of America Corp., Merrill Lynch & Co., JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Goldman Sachs Group Inc., awarded nearly 4,800 million-dollar-plus bonuses, with much of the money going to Wall Street investment bankers.

Citigroup, which is now one-third owned by the government as a result of the bailout, gave 738 of its employees bonuses of at least $1 million, even after it lost $18.7 billion during the year, Cuomo's office said. The bank's top four recipients received a combined $43.7 million.

The New York-based bank received $45 billion in government money and guarantees to protect it against hundreds of billions of dollars on potential losses from risky investments.

"There is no clear rhyme or reason to the way banks compensate and reward their employees," Cuomo said in the report, noting banks have not in recent years actually tied pay to performance as they claim when describing their compensation programs. Cuomo added that when banks' performance deteriorated significantly, "they were bailed out by taxpayers and their employees were still paid well."

Bank of America, which also received $45 billion in TARP money, paid $3.3 billion in bonuses, with 172 employees receiving at least $1 million and the top four recipients receiving a combined $64 million. Merrill Lynch, which Charlotte, N.C.-based Bank of America acquired during the credit crisis, paid out $3.6 billion, including a combined $121 million to four top employees.

Bank of America earned $2.56 billion in 2008, while Merrill lost $30.48 billion. Cuomo's office said Merrill Lynch doled out 696 bonuses of at least $1 million for 2008.

Bank of America has been sharply criticized for its acquisition of Merrill Lynch because of mounting losses at the Wall Street bank and the size of bonuses Merrill paid its employees. Of the $45 billion in bailout funds Bank of America received, $20 billion was to support the acquisition of Merrill. Neither Bank of America nor Citigroup have repaid their TARP loans.

A Bank of America spokesman declined to comment on the report. A spokesman for Citigroup did not return repeated calls for comment.

Banks have said they needed to pay their top performing employees to prevent them from defecting to competitors. Companies that accepted TARP money have faced intense government scrutiny and must now comply with restrictions on compensation, including bonuses.
Aw, c'mon people, this represents less than ten minutes research with the Google and the internets pipes, but I think it more than amply illustrates that corporate non-corporeal 'people', carefully protected by the sycophants in both parties, but especially the republican party, who are finding ever more creative and destructive means to serve their corporate masters while totally ignoring the least among us as they destroy America by allowing the unhindered theft all that we USED to hold dear.

Holy, god-fearing, Sunday-in-church-for-show-worshippers, and the ultimate liars that have engineered and now effect a new Dark Ages in America that will dwarf the Dark Ages of Europe, laughing all the way as they destroy the world.

Fake, fake, fake that photograph…make, make, make all the people laugh…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 3:29 PM Permalink

… I refer to this picture of the purported mass of protesters being circulated and commented upon by weak-minded, lying Republicans showing a HUGH crowd of alleged protesters.

From the text at the above link:
"It was an impressive crowd," he [Pete Piringer, public affairs officer for the D.C. Fire and Emergency Department] said. But after marching down Pennsylvania Avenue to the Capitol the crowd "only filled the Capitol grounds, maybe up to Third Street," he said.

Yet the photo showed the crowd sprawling far beyond that to the Washington Monument, which is bordered by 15th and and 17th Streets.

There's another big problem with the photograph: it doesn't include the National Museum of the American Indian, a building located at the corner of Fourth St. and Independence Ave. that opened on Sept. 14, 2004. (Looking at the photograph, the building should be in the upper right hand corner of the National Mall, next to the Air and Space Museum.) That means the picture was taken before the museum opened exactly five years ago. So clearly the photo doesn't show the "tea party" crowd from the Sept. 12 protest.

"I've seen bigger crowds at Montreal Expos games, but I still wouldn't fake a photo just to justify your predictions of millions descending on Washington," said one gleeful Democratic media strategist. "This is grade-A stupid and just plays into the argument that these were astroturf protests to begin with. They've always brought the noise, but the question that was supposed to be answered this weekend was, could they bring the numbers? In that respect this was an unmitigated disaster."

A number of conservative blogs have since taken the photo down. Some have corrected their posts. Others say the circulation of the picture was a left-wing conspiracy to discredit the event. However, many of them are still claiming that at least a million people attended the march. Nate Silver estimates about 70,000 protesters showed up.

It isn't the first failed attempt by the GOP and friends in biased media to inflate the size of the event. On Saturday, organizer Matt Kibbe announced on stage that ABC News had estimated a crowd of 1 to 1.5 million. ABC News had reported no such thing.
O-o-o-o-o whee! Or as Gomer Pyle would have said, "G-o-o-l-ly!" here is proof positive once again that Republicans will lie, scheme, deceive, practice obvious mendacities, prevarications, tell untruths, spread easily perceived propaganda, fib, dissemble, dissimulate, misinform, mislead, lie through their teeth, and do so in a manner that fools no one but their own weak-willed, bigoted, prejudiced, right-wing religious base. (Maybe I shouldn't suger-coat it like that.)

Damned liars.

The bigots come out at night, and now during the day…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 4:32 PM Permalink

…and I think any school district that uses bigotry to accuse the President of "indoctrinating" their children should have their funding from federal sources immediately cancelled and they should be forced to get by on only what the state can afford.

I know this seems harsh, but otherwise the Great American Experiment is over due to the actions of a paltry few thousand bigots as versus the millions and millions of our citizens who both voted for and support our President.

Better yet, expel them from the Union and see how long they last as states without federal funding.

Bigots, liars, a$$holes teaching their children hatred for someone based on the color of their skin, and don't EVEN try to tell me they are truly afraid Obama is going to "Indoctrinate" their kids to a different way of life controlled by them Negroes because that is 100% pure bull sh*it of a kind that caused the Civil War.

Expel them from the Union, sever all financial ties with them, issue them special colored passports for interstate travel, shut them out of the great promise of democracy, force them to make their own currency backed by the gold standard.

Yeah, I know these ideas are harsh, but our country as a whole fails if we allow the cancer of hatred and bigotry to again take hold and destroy our principals upon the whim of hate-filled idiots.

So to all you phucking idiots out there I say: SECEDE FROM THE UNION and spare us your lies, bigotry, hatred, and the indoctrination of children to hate persons of color, 'cause no one will EVER convince me that these hated and despised worms have anything but evil in their black-hearts and tiny, closed minds.

And remember: your children are watching your hatred and, just as I did as a child, THEY KNOW that you are basing your objections on hatred and not commonsense or any other valid philosophy.

Headline from HuffPo: Grassley Voted For So-Called "Death Panel" In 2003…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 3:15 PM Permalink

…wow! Big surprise there!

Who would have ever guessed that Assley and other grand old prevaricators like Boner and crew would LIE to all of America with their bare, shameless faces hanging out:
Time Magazine's Amy Sullivan pointed out last night that, for all of his ardent demagoguery on the so-called "death panels," Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) voted for just such a provision in 2003.

Remember the 2003 Medicare prescription drug bill, the one that passed with the votes of 204 GOP House members and 42 GOP Senators? Anyone want to guess what it provided funding for? Did you say counseling for end-of-life issues and care? Ding ding ding!!

So either Republicans were for death panels in 2003 before turning against them now--or they're lying about end-of-life counseling in order to frighten the bejeezus out of their fellow citizens and defeat health reform by any means necessary. Which is it, Mr. Grassley ("Yea," 2003)?

Reps. John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Thaddeus McCotter (R-Mich.), who both claimed end-of-life consultations could result in "government encouraged euthanasia," also voted for similar policy in 2003.

Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) tried to call Grassley on Friday and tell him he was wrong about health care reform. He got the senator's voicemail.
Man, you can tell a republican is lying when his/her lips move and/or they start refusing to take the calls of fellow Senators, although in Assley's case all you need do is LOOK at him and you know he's probably just another in-bred, psychopathic, red-necked hillbilly that don't need no health care.

"Pass that bottle of moonshine over here Ma 'cause I ain't feelin' no good," appears to be Assley's preferred method of health care.

Warning: Objects in mirror are closer than they appear…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 2:51 PM Permalink

…should be paraphrased as, "Warning: Dangers of military service are much closer and far worse than they appear…" for it matters not if you serve in a war zone, loading toxic ammunition, work with the nastiest solvents and cleansers in the world, work in, nearby, or transport nuclear weapons or leaky canisters of dangerous chemicals, drive trucks used to transport these type items, or simply innocently live downwind of one of the many hundreds of "super-toxic" sites left behind by the military, U.S. military service is dangerous to the life and safety of the individual.

The military has no regard for the safety of the individual soldier, merely hope that they can train a troop to stay alive through all the mud, blood, guts, gore, and exposure to the innumerable dangerous and often debilitating or deadly substances with which soldiers must work until their real aims may be achieved.

I believe that this is what will eventually lead to the collapse of the American form of government: caring so little for our fighting forces that little or no effort is made or being made to safeguard them from the innumerable poisons to which they are exposed practically daily (go out to any firing range and drink deep of the lead-filled air) and that bothers those in charge of our forces not at all.

Soldiers today are worse than fodder - they are distractions meant to draw attentions away from the many atrocities and genocides being conducted from the skies.

I have begun to believe there will be no peace among men until men no longer exist.

[Not] all the children are insane…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 5:03 PM Permalink

…which was what I was beginning to believe when I read Sailor's piece below about testing welfare and food stamp reciperants for drug use and cutting them off if it is found out that they have indulged in one of man's all time favorite vices.

Missouri Republican's say:
"Nobody's being forced into these assistance programs," said Craig Blair, a Republican in the West Virginia Legislature
. Link He continued:
"If so many jobs require random drug tests these days, why not these benefits?"
Maybe because being poor doesn't require any kind of special license, special skills requiring a license, no highly technical skills (the skill-set of which must require extensive training, years of schooling, and then testing to satisfy regulatory authorities in that field), and doesn't even require a college degree, even though many college graduates, thanks to the GOP, find themselves both unemployed and/or unemployable.

And at $400 a test this can hardly be justified during these awful, republican-induced, and disastrous financial times. So it is now apparent that these scathingly stupid legislators have come up with a scathingly stupid idea to deprive help and hope to those who need it the very worst.

BUT WAIT, Obi Wan Kenobi! There are still people out there that care, many of them attempting to right the ship of state through only one of the means still available with the power to stop this nonsense.

See this from the LAT titled:
Former judge fired up on making pot legal

I'm sitting in Costa Mesa with a silver-haired gent who once ran for Congress as a Republican and used to lock up drug dealers as a federal prosecutor, a man who served as an Orange County judge for 25 years. And what are we talking about? He's begging me to tell you we need to legalize drugs in America.

"Please quote me," says Jim Gray, insisting the war on drugs is hopeless. "What we are doing has failed."…

But take a look at the world, people.

Mexican drug lords are better armed than police and killing thousands who don't buy into the corruption, with the violence crashing our borders, and American enemies abroad are financed by the opium trade.

Ten days ago I visited a Los Angeles elementary school where students practice dropping to the floor and making themselves as flat as pancakes to avoid stray bullets from the gang-infested neighborhood, and drugs play a role in that violence. On Wednesday I strolled through downtown Los Angeles and marijuana smoke filled the air, a mocking reminder of the impossible task of eradicating drugs, despite the trillions spent and the thousands of people we've locked away in our jails and prisons.…

Gray was on the Municipal Court bench in the 1980s when he took his first hit from the reform pipe. The vast majority of the cases coming before him were alcohol-related, he said, and he was able to divert defendants into screening and recovery. But he couldn't do the same in drug cases, and he was frustrated, both on the Municipal Court bench and later on the Superior Court bench.

"Our jails are filled with low-level users who sold to support the habit," says Gray, who believes that the tougher the criminal justice system gets on drug offenders, the fewer resources it has to go after rapists, robbers and other criminals.…

If Gray had his way, no one under 21 could buy drugs. But anyone older than that could legally buy marijuana -- which, he says, causes nowhere near the amount of death and disease as alcohol. The state would need to see how that works, he said, before moving on to legalizing the sale of harder drugs. Sure, he says, legalization might lead to more toking at first, but he believes drug use would wane when it's no longer forbidden and the novelty wears off.

I'm not sure I agree, but I do buy into Gray's argument about who the winners are in the current system.

First, there are the drug lords in Mexico and beyond. Then the drug gangs that peddle the stuff here. Next come the law enforcement agencies, prison contractors and prison guards, which use the war on drugs to demand more resources. And finally, there are the politicians who have wooed voters since the Nixon administration by pledging to support the war on drugs.

"My personal opinion," says Gray, "is that we couldn't have done worse if we tried."
Couldn't possibly have said that better myself, Judge Gray. By now the GOP has suspended your library card.

Hooray! Fewer bush babies has got to be good…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 12:20 PM Permalink

…for the country. And no, I'm not talking about some animal from Australia, I'm talking about a court throwing out yet another piece of the gw bush f-cked up legacy.

From the NYT:
A federal judge ordered the Food and Drug Administration on Monday to make the Plan B morning-after birth control pill available without prescription to women as young as 17.

The judge ruled that the agency had improperly bowed to political pressure from the Bush administration in 2006 when it set 18 as the age limit.…

Some women’s health advocates hailed the decision.

“It is a complete vindication of the argument that reproductive rights advocates have been making for years, that in the Bush administration it was politics, not science, driving decisions around women’s health,” said Nancy Northup, president of the Center for Reproductive Rights, the attorneys for the plaintiff in the suit against the F.D.A.
This is a sound position in my mind and may prevent many unwanted "bush babies," as I refer to them.

Of course there are the usual detractors from anything that makes good sense.
But some conservative groups voiced concern that the ruling could promote sexual promiscuity. “Now some minor girls will be able to obtain this drug without any guidance from a doctor and without any parental supervision,” the Family Research Council said in a statement.…

On Monday, in a decision that criticized former F.D.A. officials, Judge Edward R. Korman of Federal District Court in New York threw out the F.D.A. ruling.

Judge Korman wrote that officials of the agency had repeatedly delayed action on the petition, moving only when members of Congress threatened to hold up confirmation hearings on acting F.D.A. commissioners. Several officials also violated the agency’s own policies, he wrote.

Citing depositions, Judge Korman wrote that agency officials had improperly communicated with White House officials about Plan B. And, he said, F.D.A. employees sought to influence decisions by appointing people with anti-abortion views to an independent panel of experts reviewing Plan B for the agency.

The agency also departed from its normal procedures, the judge wrote, by ignoring favorable conclusions about the drug by an advisory panel as well its own scientists and officials who found that the drug could be safely used by women at least as young as 17.

Such “political considerations, delays and implausible justifications” showed that the F.D.A. had acted without good faith or reasoned decision making, Judge Korman wrote.
W-h-h-a-a-t? Was this judge intimating that the bush maladministration and the F.D.A. were guilty of improprieties? What a shock.

From an excellent opinion piece about "Bush's Big Lies"…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 1:43 PM Permalink

…in todays LA Times:
…How did such dangerously bad legal memos ever get taken seriously in the first place?

One answer is suggested by the so-called Big Lie theory of political propaganda, articulated most infamously by Adolf Hitler. Ordinary people "more readily fall victim to the big lie than the small lie," wrote Hitler, "since they themselves often tell small lies ... but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously."

In other words: Paradoxically, the more outrageous the claim, the more apt we are to assume there must be some truth to it. Just as some banks and insurance companies are apparently "too big to fail," some claims from those with political power seem to strike us as "too big to disbelieve." "That seems so outrageous it must be right," we tell ourselves. "The important people keep saying it -- they must know something I don't know."

That's the only explanation I can come up with for why the 2001-2002 memos stood as Bush administration doctrine for as long as they did. (The Big Lie theory also helps explain why other manifestly false Bush administration claims prevailed in the face of the evidence: Recall, for instance, how we were assured that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and that the war would be a
cakewalk?)

Big lies prevail because we can't bring ourselves to believe that our leaders could be so dishonest or deluded. And big lies can do terrible damage, of course. The Bush administration's big legal lies paved the way for some of the most shameful episodes in our history, including the official authorization of torture.

In the end, thankfully, all big lies collapse under their own weight.…
gw bush and Adolf Hitler, soulmates. If there is a Hell I'm sure Adolf has already made a reservation for bush.

Hey! I gots a great idea! And simple to implement, too…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 12:50 PM Permalink

…If we have such an ineffectual, waste of time and money Food and Drug Agency, let's do our testing of food and other products in such a way that will go much further to protect the public than the government without spending a penny of taxpayer dollars.

Make the board of directors or whatever S.O.B. what's in charge of producing or importing food or other products PROVE by affidavit, videotape, and statements from their family members that they themselves and their families eat that food or use the product in question.

If it's safe enough to foist off onto the public shouldn't they be required to provide empirical, hard data, that the food or product has been proven to be safe through actual use by CEOs, their families, and friends? Until a lengthy trial period conducted to give time for any poisonous or dangerous aspects of the product to become clear?

Refusal by CEOs and their cronies to do this would help eliminate any chance of poisonous foods or products from reaching the American consumer.

None of the peanut people would voluntarily eat a sample of their own product before a congressional committee, so jail 'em and give them nothing but their own products to eat or use until they are willing to admit they have or had direct knowledge of the dangers posed by that food or other products.

Draconian to be sure. But not nearly not nearly as draconian as watching a family member grow sick or die from consuming a product that even its producer won't eat or use.

Other things you should be worrying about…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 10:18 AM Permalink

…along with now ex-Vice President cheney (Gosh that has a nice ring to it!).

cheney is all over the news today saying President Obama will be making a grave error by closing Gitmo, as future attacks will be much more severe, possibly including nuclear, biological, or chemical attacks.

I'm certain that just the fact Gitmos exists will alone be sufficient to prevent all these types of attacks and the resulting carnage that would strongly resemble the devastation left behind by the bush/cheney maladministration.

It did make me start thinking about the possibility there are other types of attacks cheney has not yet thought of and the resulting damage:
1. A lone satellite could crash into one of our notoriously deficient silos and cause the detonation of one of our missiles.
2. The incompetent missile silo crews that failed their last disastrous inspections, many totally asleep throughout the exercise, could get carried away betting on poker and accidentally detonate a nuke themselves (I'll see your New York and rasise you by Los Angeles).
3. The next time six cruise missiles are sent on an unannounced tour of the American midwest one missile could accidentally fall off into a blue state, causing great mischief and inspiring gales of laughter as cheney and pals reminisced about it.
4. The Evil Ones are breeding a herd of blue giant mutant mice that eat people with minimal infrastructure damage, of which we already enough, and that can only be controlled by a special radio concealed in an unknown location which cheney has already stocked with ducks, geese, pheasant and the faces of fellow hunters he has shot off.
5. Weaponized sea snakes could at this moment be circling Florida as a prelude to an attack on Gitmo (What can I say? Florida drew the short straw).
6. Radio controlled vampire bats called Bat Predators, are hiding in cave and hollowed out trees all over America just waitining for the attack. The only drawback here is miniaturizing Hellfire missiles.
7. Lynn Cheney might start hitting the news rounds, presaging an attack.
8. Our government might stop inspecting toys completely, engaging in chemical warfare with hugh and unsafe amounts of lead in our future toys, leaving America a pack of blithering idiots (like cheney?) drooling and scavenging for bits and scraps of melamine-tainted, nutritionally deficit food.
This is just a small sampling of what our country faces, unless the Chinese just forecloses on America and evicts us all.

I could be just as right as cheney, y'know.

It's thinking like this from people such as these…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 10:13 AM Permalink

…that got us into such dire financial straits. The Republicans figure they haven't done enough to almost destroy America and its ideals. They are determined, after all those years of spending and borrowing such as never imagined, to complete the job and kill off our government. After all, they've gotten theirs already.

No greater indication of their desperation could exist to surpass this one:
Fresh off his stint as a war correspondent in Gaza, Joe the Plumber is now doing political strategy with Republicans.

When GOP congressional aides gather Tuesday morning for a meeting of the Conservative Working Group, Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher – more commonly known as Joe the Plumber — will be their featured guest. This group is an organization of conservative Capitol Hill staffers who meet regularly to chart GOP strategy for the week.

Wurzelbacher, who became a household name during the presidential election, will be focusing his talk on the proposed stimulus package. He's apparently not a fan of the economic rescue package, according to members of the group.

If nothing else, GOP aides are using the appearance to get staffers to attend the 9 a.m meeting.

“In case you weren’t planning to attend CWG tomorrow morning, you might want to reconsider because Joe the Plumber will be joining us!” Kimberly Wallner, an aide to South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint, wrote in a message to her e-mail list this afternoon.
Hooray! We can all sleep easy tonight knowing that an unemployed/never employed plumber and erstwhile political reporter will be on the job, round the clock, shirtsleeves rolled up as an indication of the hard work he has to do to help his desperate party, the GOP, recover their swagger, learn to spit chewin' tabaccy, start real physical fights with reporters from nations friendly to America, and, in general, show those wimpy, sniveling, girly-man, effete snobs that are clearly out to obstruct everything President Obama does or wants to do how to get the job finished off and end our freedoms.

I wrote President Obama yesterday to tell him that if the rethugs are refusing to vote, the Senate rule against filigusters should be temporarily suspended until the Democratic Party can show those @ssholes the good things government can do for America without the stupid, purely partisan politics of hate and bias as practiced by the God-cursed Obstruction Party

This comment is inspired from a headline on the Huffington Post/Political Page:
Republicans To Flee DC For Obama Inauguration
What a demonstration of class! What a great way to show contempt for American voters! What a way for the GOP to continue their toxic blend of politics!

What an easy and stupid way to relegate yourself (if you're a politician) to political obscurity in the face of changing headwinds of American politics!

I LOVE IT! Go GOP! Show the world how disrespectful, ignorant, arrogant, and just how much being in office and having NOTHING to show for it just because "you lost an ewection." (This last sentence covers the use of Viagra for all the old white men that dominated the country for way too long!)

So hurray for Republicans cutting off their…uh… NOSES, yeah that's it, cutting off their noses to improve their appearance AND make friends and accumulate power in both their home state AND the Congress/Senate.

Hurray for finally showing just how much (which is very little, if any) CLASS that the GOP possesses!

Ain't it weird that when interviewing "pundits" from differing school of thought…

posted by Bill Arnett @ 1:29 PM Permalink

…the Democratic representative almost always calls for unity of our country and offers several useful ideas about how things may be done with only a tiny bit of cooperation not the current Senate Republican policy of constant obstruction offered by Mitch McConnell, Senate Majority leader.

I am sure that Senator McConnell would hold a filibuster and stall any medical help that would be of direct help to his relatives, even if it were his own mother, if it was proposed or written by the Democratic Party.

The Democratic Senate will find a way around McConnell eventually as the RNC comes to realize with ever greater acuity that their very jobs count on helping the Democratic Party to pass much needed legislation and reforms.

I have always said the Republicans and their "yoyo" policies will insure the demise of the RNC (and possible America for good measure).

And for anyone not familiar with the "yoyo" policy it means this: The RNC has no inclination to help the unemployed (Let 'em go get a job!), the help needed by the infirm poor (Let them eat cake!), creation of universal medical care (Let 'em pay their own way, I've got mine!), and that if you were lying by the roadside, on fire, they could not be bothered to stop and p*ss on your face to put it out (Let him call the fire department with his cell phone). Hence the "you are on your own", yoyo, policies are so divisive and destructive

Ah, yes! Being a Republican while the country crumbles to insignificance around them, while they sip their champaign at a donor sponsored luncheon, where the RNC snatches up tens of thousands in monetary donations in their own self-interest while the rest of the country can go to hell.

I'm sick unto death with these RNC policies that have led directly to the demise of America as we used to know it.

Where does it stop? When will legislative become more than a card to be won at all costs, including burning any/all of the good cards in the deck you don't like?
