A message for Chertoff

WE'RE NOT DEAD YET! (my comments in red, obviously)
Chertoff said that once laws are written, the public should not second-guess government actions and claim that federal officials are overstepping their authority. Here, he is expecting the US people to roll over and play dead. Be good little citizens. Do as they're told, cease all thought. He decried critics who make such accusations, despite the widespread pubic calls after the September 11, 2001 attacks for the U.S. government to do more to protect the country. Widespread calls by whom exactly? The media? The pundits? They don't speak for me and they never have. I never called for the government to make us safer. I called for them to stop screwing around in other people's countries so people would stop getting pissed at us. Chertoff further said U.S. society needs to come to a determination as to what are acceptable authorities for the U.S. government versus what violates people’s rights. Here he's saying the government knows best and whatever they decide to do will only help people so, rights are nothing compared to that.
The man is scary. He epitomizes the very worst of what government and the power of the nation state are.
