Boy, garbage men are so much smarter than those in power…

…when it comes to creating ways to make more money.

Recently the disposal company here bought brand new trucks with a mechanical arm (which allowed them to get rid of more than one person per truck, and of course, saving money and benefits to workers) and then brought us two additional garbage cans, clearly labelled "garbage only," "Grass cuttings only," and the last labelled "Recyclable items only." (We already had the "Garbage Only can.)

So now they have to run three different trucks (can't mix can contents which might set off a thermonuclear explosion, although I'd have to ask the Sailor and the Vidiot to be sure about that) meaning that we now have three different trucks that come by instead of the one, previously, and it makes me wonder if running those extra trucks, with fuel and maintenance factored in, is really that much of a savings that it is worth eliminating jobs with which the workers could support their families..

Ah, expanding unemployment and increasing welfare and food stamp rolls through mechanization and innovation. I guess to republicans it is a beautiful thang and should be expanded upon.

Actually, in a Marxist world, increased mechanization is a GOOD thing since it frees people up to do what they want. unfortunately, we live in a capitalistic world so mechanization merely screws people out of a job.
