I don't get it
posted by The Vidiot @ 7:41 AM PermalinkWhy did we just give Ford a ton of money? I thought it was to save 'merican jobs.
Ford Motor Company started producing its fuel-efficient low-cost Fiesta car at a plant in the eastern Chinese city of Nanjing on Thursday, the company said.
...
The Fiesta will go on sale in North America in early 2010 and will be produced at Ford's Cuautitlan Assembly Plant in Mexico.

Ford did not get money from the federal government. Our statement on the matter can be found here:

Wow. A Ford PR person actually commented. So, let me get this straight; your job is to watch blogs and make sure nothing denigrating is being said about your corporate overlords? That some job you got there.
Whatever, fine, you didn't get fed money like GM or Chrysler, but Ford is asking for a line of credit, ostensibly to help get them through the rough patch. (And Ford HOPES to not need an actual loan)
The whole argument for car companies getting any government aid, be it a loan, bridge financing or out-and-out bail out, is to save american jobs. So then why is the company building American cars with foreign labor and planning on building cars for American consumers in Mexico. And don't give me that crap that the unions made manufacturing impossible in the US. The fact is the countries with all the cheap labor don't give a damn about their employees or their environment for that matter.
I'm sure you have a few factories in the US, but Ford, just like everyone else has moved a lot of it overseas and to Mexico.
Ack. I can't argue this crap. I can't stand corporations and the capitalist system. I doubt you could say anything to make me like any of it.
