We've recently learned from Japan that the amount of radiation released was more than 20 times that from the Hiroshima bomb, and now it looks they may be experiencing the early stages of a total China Syndrome meltdown. And is the United States in danger too?
We're still spiking here in in St. Louis. Teen Vidiot still won't believe me when I say the rain his hot. It was nice being in S. America where I knew the radiation hadn't spread in mass quantities yet.

I'm freaked out about the food. Freaked out about my dog walking in wet grass. Freaked out about shoes in the apartment. And I'm not even freaked out for myself. I'm old (kinda') and whatever the effects on me, I'll probably die of old age first (and old age in my family, on the side I take after, is only in about 20-30 years.) But Dr. Vidiot and his kid? Hell, I don't know what to do for them. The kid thinks I'm nuts for not buying milk until I find a good local producer that DOESN'T grass feed. Neither one of them want to give up meat. And Dr. Vidiot is like, "We can't live our lives like we're in a fallout shelter." Which I know, but my instincts, honed over years of studying biochemistry, doing cancer research using highly radioactive materials, my masters in fluid dynamics, my thorough understanding of just how much the elite who control this world DON'T care about us proles, all of that tells me that what they're telling us is NOT what is really going on. They're not telling us what is really going on because IT'S TOO DAMNED AWFUL TO TELL. If they did, there would be mass rioting.
So, I don't know what to do.
That's why I haven't written.
Sorry if this post depresses anybody. And please feel free to think I'm nuts if that makes you feel better. But I think anyone who doesn't realize that life changed after March 11 is either delusional or retarded.

But I can't seem to decide what to be pissed at. There's just too much. I can't narrow my focus. The nuclear meltdown in Japan is just freaking me out. I mean, you know, I know, we ALL know that if plutonium gets into the upper atmosphere, chances are the powers that be won't say word one to us. They'll just let us drop like flies and say "Ooops. Must be a plague or something."
Also, on the environmental front, just because they're not reporting on the BP spill doesn't mean it still isn't FUBAR.
Then there's the new war front in Libya, thanks to our warmonger-in-chief. Who's next on the hit list? Syria?
And don't even get me started on the economy.
And I'm just scratching the surface.
{sigh}
I think I'll just sit here and obsess about how many times I've twisted my ankles on the literally millions of spiky sweetgum tree fruit nuts that are littering the streets around here.

But am I the only one to notice that when they talk about the Fukushima nuclear power plant, and they talk about the reactors, they're referred to as FUK-1 and FUK-2, etc.?
So, apparently, WE'RE FUKKED.
I dunno, has to be a message in there for us somewhere.
Shouldn't we, as a species, be reevaluating our dependence on a technology that can kill vast swathes of people and land in a microsecond if things go terribly wrong? The Germans have started to question it. Shouldn't we?

We watched both versions of the “Life After People” shows, the one on the History channel and the one on National Geographic. Both were interesting. However, one thing we noticed: The History channel’s version didn’t say anything bad about nuclear power plants. Basically, they only mentioned that safety mechanisms would kick in and safely shut down the plants as the juice when off. The National Geographic one said that after the juice runs out, that means that the cooling baths would shut down, which would lead to a runaway overheating of the spent cores, causing a nuclear disaster in every single nuclear plant in the world and additionally, wherever spent rods were stored, creating dead zones around the area and spreading radiation all around the planet. High energy particles would spread first, causing an immediate die-off of the smaller animals and then long term particles would remain, causing problems for generations to come. Much more informative than the History channel’s version, no?
I always knew that the History channel was really the propaganda channel. I just never really knew how bad it was.
U.S. Officials Say Broken Satellite Will Be Shot Down
Hah! How the hell do they plan to do that when their missile defense system has rarely worked, then only under the most favorable conditions, and still doesn't take into account the power reactors in the satellite?

The title is, "Disabled Spy Satellite Threatens Earth," which sounds pretty dire to me for what they represent this satellite to be:
A large U.S. spy satellite has lost power and could hit the Earth in late February or early March, government officials said Saturday.
The satellite, which no longer can be controlled, could contain hazardous materials, and it is unknown where on the planet it might come down, they said. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the information is classified as secret. It was not clear how long ago the satellite lost power, or under what circumstances.[…and here's where it get "v-e-r-r-r-y in-ter-esting" in a Henry Gibson kind of way. Bill][…]
The spacecraft contains hydrazine _ which is rocket fuel _ according to a government official who was not authorized to speak publicly but spoke on condition of anonymity. Hydrazine, a colorless liquid with an ammonia-like odor, is a toxic chemical and can cause harm to anyone who contacts it.
Such an uncontrolled re-entry could risk exposure of U.S. secrets, said John Pike, a defense and intelligence expert. Spy satellites typically are disposed of through a controlled re-entry into the ocean so that no one else can access the spacecraft, he said.
Pike also said it's not likely the threat from the satellite could be eliminated by shooting it down with a missile, because that would create debris that would then re-enter the atmosphere and burn up or hit the ground.
Hydrazine is toxic and can, "…cause harm to anyone who contacts it," but seems to me that the several thousand degrees of heat generated by reentry would alone resolve that problem by exploding the rocket fuel long before it could possibly harm anyone on the surface of the planet.
The "government official" also ruled out shooting the satellite down and said that allowing it to crash could reveal U.S. secrets.
Why would this satellite pose such a problem to "Earth?" The debris field would be smaller than that of the shuttle which exploded during reentry, a shuttle by the way that was probably fueled with hydrazine. How many reports do YOU remember about the threat of hydrazine poisoning from the crashing shuttle?
This smacks of a different problem: a mini-nuclear reactor that has been powering this satellite, carrying enough plutonium that, if shattered and scattered into very fine particles, could be landing in a neighborhood near YOU.
When will someone - ANYONE - speak out against nuclear war…

This will be bush's "legacy" of shame that will surely reduce Israel and America to the status of inhuman monsters, killing hundreds of thousands, possibly millions, of women, children, and totally innocent men indiscriminately, inhumanely, and in a manner certain to result in the greatest humanitarian and ecological disaster in history.
The environmental disaster from the fallout and decades of radiation-induced deaths and deformities of future Iranians, as well as in countries bordering Iran, will be horrific.
And for what reason? Because Iran is perfectly and lawfully, by treaty, enriching uranium to power its perfectly legal nuclear reactors.
A people who survived the Holocaust of WWII will themselves be the ones inflicting a Holocaust on the Iranians, aided and abetted by America, a country to which Iran poses absolutely no threat.
They will do this in the name of their god and justify their crimes as a preemptive strike against a country they IMAGINE might pose a threat to them.
And, as a result, the entire world will realize that the nuclear-armed countries of America and Israel are willing destroy the world to further their political ends, giving Russia, China, and many other countries the incentive to strike America and Israel with nuclear weapons before America and Israel turn their sights to their own, peaceful countries.
Too, a nuclear strike against another Muslim country will simply affirm everything Osama bin laden and other radical clerics have been saying for years about the West. That our only intent and desire is to kill them all without mercy.
And what do you reckon Saudi Arabia will do with its $20 billion order of American-made sophisticated weaponry? Sit there and watch while their stated and hated enemy Israel uses nukes against unarmed, nuclear speaking, countries?

Russia may stop bush from making another horrible mistake
posted by Bill Arnett @ 10:48 AM Permalink I think it's great that, finally, a well-known leader of one of the only superpowers left today, President Putin of Russia, went to Iran and spoke about Iran having absolutely every right in the world to pursue the peaceful use of nuclear power. Every signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty already knows this, and it has always mystified me that bush and cohorts could ignore that fact and address Iran in the most bellicose manner possible, probably a cheap attempt to provoke a reaction from Iran's leaders that bush could then twist into a reason to bomb Iran.
And it really strikes me that here America should be defending Iran's rights instead of condemning them, and that it takes a real leader like Putin to travel to Iran and reaffirm that which the world has seemingly forgotten, that as signers of the NPT they have every right to nuclear power.
Russia has a deal to build them a nuclear reactor to help provide electric power for Iran and likely would look with disfavor upon any other nation that would attack and destroy that reactor.
Putin is not all talk and bluster and a person to whom diplomacy is mistaken as a sign of weakness as bush seems to believe.
Funny, isn't it, that bush is scared to death to engage Iran with diplomacy - talk! - while Putin does not fear to actually go to Iran to engage in talks despite death threats that, in my opinion, were planted by the bush propaganda machine to try and stop Putin's trip.
